TRX for Anybody,
Anywhere

Why the Suspension Trainer Was Designed to Go Anywhere

When you need a strength training tool you can use on the go, you can’t beat the TRX Suspension Trainer. The anybody, anywhere concept is part of the Suspension Trainer’s DNA.

The legend of the TRX goes like this. Years ago, before he invented the Suspension Trainer, Randy Hetrick was a Navy SEAL. He was looking for a way to maintain peak physical condition while on deployment when he built the original Suspension Trainer prototype from a jujitsu belt and parachute webbing. It was an odd-looking contraption, but it worked. Soon, other SEALS on his team were asking him to make them their own sets of straps.

Train Like a Navy Seal

U.S., Navy SEALs have access to world class training facilities that rival those of professional athletes. At home, they have every machine and weight they could dream of. But packing all that equipment when a team is deployed for a covert operation isn’t feasible.

“If you go on an operation for a couple weeks, no one’s bringing treadmills,” Hetrick explains. “You would end up down there doing bear crawls, crab walks, plyometric star jumps, and probably more push-ups that you can shake a stick at. If you’re really lucky, you find some place you can hang off and do pull-ups.” The benefit of bodyweight exercises is that anyone can do them anywhere. The drawback is that SEALs need more intense challenges to train for their grueling missions.

Over the last 20-plus years, Hetrick’s design had evolved into the tool you see today—with noticeable upgrades to the handles and hardware—but the basic idea remains the same: anybody should be able to use the TRX Suspension Trainer anywhere. It truly is the do-it-all fitness tool.
